Desert View Watchtower
Designed in 1932 by Mary Colter as a replica of a prehistoric Indian tower and constructed by the Santa Fe Railroad, the Desert View Watchtower commands a magnificent view of the Grand Canyon, the Painted Desert to the east, the San Fransico Peaks to the south, and the Colorado River down below. This 70 foot (21 meter) tower is the highest point on the South Rim. The interior walls of the tower feature murals by Hopi artist Fred Kabotie.
