In a packet-switching data network, a logical end-to-end transmission channel--as opposed to a physical connection--that connects X.25 users. Virtual circuits allow physical transmission facilities to be shared by many users simultaneously. A virtual circuit is a logical connexion established between two DTEs. See also physical circuit.
