Ras el hanout betyder "head Shop," enligt uppgift eftersom butiken ägare skapar sina egna unika blandning, som kan innefatta ingefära, anis, kanel, muskot, pepparkorn, kryddnejlika, kardemumma, torkade blommor (till exempel lavendel och rose), nigella, mace, galangal och gurkmeja. Traditionellt detta spice blandning innehåller också aphrodisiacs som Spanish fly skalbaggar.
