A type of IPL in which the IPL stops at the dedicated service tools (DST) environment, allowing the user to make changes to the system or to debug a problem with the system. Continuing the IPL allows the system to stop at various steps of the remaining IPL into the i5/OS operating system, allowing the user to make additional changes within the i5/OS installation.
