Varietal terms include plyxene and ferroplatinum for iron alloys and cuproplatinum for copper alloys.

3CaO.SiO<sub>2</sub>; dissociates at approx. 1,900 degrees C to form CaO and 2CaO.SiO<sub>2</sub>. This compound is the principal cementing constitutent of Portland cement, small quantities of MgO and Al<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub>usually being present in solid solution. Tricalcium silicate is also present in stabilized dolomite refractories.
