The atmosphere, oceans, biosphere (plant and animal life), and top portion of the earth's crust, which are involved in complex interactions defining ecology. Namely, this is the mutual relation between organisms and their environment over the spherical surface of the earth.
Industry:Weather
Maximum pumping rate from an aquifer that can be economically sustained without adversely affecting the water supply or the water's quality.
Industry:Weather
A branch of bioclimatology that studies the relations between organisms and their climatic environment. It includes the physiological adaptation of plants and animals to their climate, and the geographical distribution of plants and animals in relation to climate.
Industry:Weather
The study of the mutual relations between organisms and their environment.

A squall or thunderstorm in the Mediterranean.
Industry:Weather
Light reflected by the earth; analogous to moonlight. Earthlight is what enables one to see the portions of the moon that are not sunlit.
Industry:Weather
The great circle in the celestial sphere that is the apparent annual path of the sun around the earth. The plane in which this circle lies is the plane of the ecliptic. The angle that this plane makes with the plane passing through the earth's equator is the obliquity of the ecliptic. With reference to the actual motion within the solar system, the plane of the earth's orbit is equivalent to the plane of the ecliptic. That is, the intersection of the plane of the earth's orbit with the earth's surface is the same as the projection of the ecliptic upon the earth's surface. The most northern and southern points on this line of intersection define the latitudes of the Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn, respectively. See solstice, equinox; compare zodiac.
Industry:Weather
A pulse of radio energy received at a radar after reflection from a target; that is, the target signal of a pulsed radar.
Industry:Weather
A device that uses sound waves to measure the depth of surface water bodies.
Industry:Weather
The electrical strength, or power, of the echo received by a radar, normally measured in decibels relative to a milliwatt (dBm). See radar equation.
